Second book in the “Chaney Twins' Series" now available

AWA Alumni Member, Rebecca Long Chaney, is proud to announce the release of her daughters' second children's book, “Mini Milk Maids on the Mooove.” This book is the second book in a children's agricultural education book series by five-year-old twin sisters Rianna and Sheridan Chaney and focuses on the dairy industry.

The book highlights the twins' personal experiences in the dairy industry including time with their grandfather, a retired dairy farmer; learning about what happens at a dairy farm from birth to milk production; participating in the Pee Wee division of the pretty cow contest at the county fair; joining the 4-H Cloverbuds club; and helping to make ice cream at South Mountain Creamery.

The 32-page children’s book is full of captivating and fun color photographs by professional photographer and book co-creator Kelly Hahn Johnson of Sharpsburg, Md. The easy-to-read text geared toward preschool and elementary-aged children highlights the many aspects of the dairy industry while encouraging children to drink milk and eat dairy products. The book also includes a glossary; recipes for butter in a jar and ice cream in a bag; fun dairy facts; and a full page devoted to educational and fun dairy Web sites.

The girls' first book, “Little Star... Raising Our First Calf,” was nominated for a prestigious Agricultural Education Literary Award in 2008. It was also recently selected by the South Dakota Farm Bureau as their “Accurate Agriculture” book and will be used throughout the state for their ag educational program.

Touting themselves as “Agricultural Warriors,” Rebecca, Rianna and Sheridan are proud they are taking their agricultural message on the road. In the spring of 2009 the trio visited eight schools reaching 1,300 elementary students. Their interactive 45-minute agricultural presentation has Thurmont Primary School students dubbing them the “Cow Family.” In addition to promoting farm life and agricultural products with her daughters, Rebecca wraps up each presentation with her daughters' children's book projecting every magical page on a large screen for students to enjoy.
